We have two and a half picks for pizza Downtown.
We’ll start with Pizza Rock, across from the Downtown Grand on 3rd at Ogden. An enormous menu seems to offer nearly any kind of pizza you might enjoy, prepared in a range of different ovens so you’ll never have to decide between, say, gas or wood. Slices are sold from the front of the restaurant, while a roomy dining room and ample bar offer space for full meals. Also on offer are Italian staples: spaghetti, chicken parm, and the like. The meatballs are amongst the best available Downtown.
Then there’s Evel Pie on Fremont East. This is a quintessential neighborhood pizza shop, offering a variety of pies, either full or by the slice. A full bar provides lots of beverage options, and the friendly, energetic environment often includes clever announcements (“Beth, your pie is ready—come get a piece of that pie!”) The Even Knievel nods include a vintage Knievel pinball machine. Weather permitting, the back patio is a great place to enjoy your meal.
Last up is our “half favorite,” Whisky Licker Up at Binion’s on Fremont. Don’t get us wrong—we fully love Whisky Licker Up! The rotating bar makes for amazing Fremont people-watching, and the menu—all made in a from-scratch display kitchen—is awesome. In the pizza category they only offer a limited selection of pies, but man, they’re good. You can also build-your-own from an extensive list of toppings.
